The South African College of Music aims to give students the best possible practical and professional experience towards their future careers through regular performances and competitions. For this concert, the University of Cape Town Symphony Orchestra performs the world premiere of an overture titled “Isiphiwo Esihle” composed by the winner of the 2023 Jan Royce Foundation Prize for Orchestral Composition, James Geldenhuys. Winner of the 2023 Laura Searle Piano Competition, Gerhard Joubert, performs Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The UCT Symphony Orchestra end their concerts for 2024 with a performance of one of Brahm’s greatest triumphs, the Symphony No. 3, conducted by Brandon Phillips.
