Join the Friends for a fun morning learning about insects—some exquisite, like the brightly coloured jewel beetles and butterflies, and some just plain creepy and ugly. You will see drawer upon drawer opened, revealing millions of insects, each meticulously labelled—the older collections in beautiful, tiny copperplate handwriting and the recent neatly printed word-processor-produced typeface in a tiny font.
Dr Simon van Noort, curator of entomology, will lead the tour of this collection, which contains over one million pinned insect specimens and is one of the oldest collections in Africa.
