The Friends have arranged a tour of Trails’ End Bicycle Museum in Grabouw. Curated by Professor Mike Bruton, the museum consists of two galleries, The History of the Bicycle and Celebrating Bicycles in Africa.
Gallery I tells the story of the origins of the bicycle from the earliest concept, up until the standard triangular frame we are used to today. This gallery also contains exhibits on the role of the bicycle in the Second Anglo-Boer War, the journey Sol Plaatje undertook by bicycle across South Africa in the early 1900s, and the role of the bicycle in the emancipation of women.

Pieter Silberbauer, the founder and owner of the Trail’s End Bike Hotel and the Bicycle Museum, will brief us on the Bike Hotel, and Mike Bruton will lead us through the museum. Tea, coffee and light eats will be available for purchase on arrival and before the start of our tour.
After the tour, you may either stay at the Bike Hotel to enjoy a delicious lunch (for your account) or explore the Elgin Railway Market, which is 10 minutes away. You may choose both of these options.
